These are pieces fired overnight in a hand-dug pit on the beach. At the time, I was making vessels and this firing process opened my eyes to new forms, surfaces and uses. These beach firings showed me that some of the “art” was in the process. Digging the pit, finding beach detritus, and burying it in the fire was like a ritual. Waking up felt like Christmas morning as we dug up the still warm jewels and beheld their transformations.
